Experience our exemplary standards

On Sunday 24th February 2008, the Glen-Yr-Afon House Hotel opened its door to allow couples to experience the exemplary service and sumptious cuisine that forms part of the package for wedding receptions and civil ceremonies held at the Hotel.  The Hotel staff were keen to ensure that the day was different from traditional wedding fayres which tend to be dominated by exhibitors. 

Couples were invited to apply for an invitation to attend the event and places were limited to ensure that sufficient time could be allocated to individual couples to answer their questions and discuss options for their big day.  The theme of the day was to treat guests on the day as they could expect to be treated if they were guests at a wedding celebration at the Hotel. 

Two sessions were held and guests were greeted by a red carpet champagne reception served by the Hotel's smartly uniformed staff and presented with a rose corsage. 

A 'mock' civil ceremony, undertaken by Monmouthshire Registrars was then demonstrated in the Ballroom, complete with 'bride' and 'groom'.  Guests were then allocated to a member of the Hotel's staff who acted as host and escorted them on a tour of the Hotel.  

Time was allocated for guests to sample the wedding buffet menus and the Hotel's Head Chef Julie Carey and her staff were on hand to speak with couples regarding the extensive range Wedding Breakfast menus offered at the Glen-Yr-Afon.

Wine sampling was also offered as part of the day following which guests were invited to browse around the selection of exhibitors that had been invited to support the event.  The Hotel's Wedding Coordinator was present to assist couples in their wedding planning and offer advice on aspects of their big day.

After the event the Hotel's General Manager, Tim Strong said 'we were pleased to offer couples an opportunity to experience for themselves the high standards we offer here at the Glen-Yr-Afon.  We have an excellent reputation for the exemplary service we give to couples from the planning stage through to the day itself and we decided that the Wedding Experience would be a good way of demonstrating what we offer. We hope to repeat the event on a regular basis'.
