A Sunday Lunch Thats Different For Many Reasons

Sunday Lunch

Its those little touches that make the difference

So last weekend we held another busy Mothering Sunday Lunch - 140 covers and 140 satisfied customers!  Today we've been reflecting (as we always do) on the success of the event which takes a lot of planning and attention to detail.  We are very used to busy Sunday Lunches here - our Clarkes Restaurant is nearly always full as regular customers tell us there are many reasons why they wouldn't go anywhere else!

So - we thought we'd share with you the reasons why we are different and why we do things they way we do!  If you haven't had Sunday lunch here before then we invite you to give us a try!  But first have a read on to see why we think (and what our customers say) about what makes a great Sunday lunch experience.

'Superb food, superb waiting staff, visible but completely unobtrusive. Mothering Sunday treat from my daughter and every detail was perfect. Unhurried, we were able to take all the time we wanted between courses and our every need or wish was catered for. Five star service in five star surroundings with five star food. Simply the Best !'

1.  Staff - we are able to efficiently serve our guests without unnecessary delays as we ensure that we have a high staff to customer ratio.  At last weekend's Mothers Day Sunday Lunch for example, we had one team member for every 10 guests!  You don't see this level of staffing at many restaurants!  Our regular customers always comment that there is always a staff member ready to serve them, clear away or take time to have a chat.  Its is important to us (as it no doubt is to our customers) that Sunday Lunch is not hurried - its the day of the week to relax, take time out with family and friends and be well fed and looked after.

2. Sittings -   How often have you been told that your table will need to be vacated by a certain time so that a second sitting can use your table?  Here at the Glen Yr Afon, you are welcome to stay at your table (or in one of our comfortable lounges) for as long as you like!  We will not hurry you to finish your meal so we can accommodate later guests.

3.  Silver-service   -  Our Sunday Lunch is silver-served to every guest - however small your group!  This is a personal touch that is often lost these days, with pre-plated meals being a quicker option for serving staff at other restaurants.  We will continue to silver-serve our meals to allow you to have the meal you want.  You are able to accept or decline the vegetables offered - and choose your own amount of gravy! so you don't have items on your plate that may not be to your liking!  If you want more roast potatoes - just ask!

'A special Sunday lunch   -  We were meeting friends for Sunday lunch; and as they'd eaten there many times before and highly recommended it, we joined them!   We were delighted in every way. Surroundings and decor, service and professional but friendliness of staff and most certainly the food! We will, most definitely be returning.   Apart from the dining room, which was extremely tasteful there were other areas where guests were served.  We spoke to a young couple having afternoon tea, yes we were eating for a prolonged period, and that looked absolutely incredible!   Afternoon tea or lunch for the next visit? Decisions, decisions!'

4.  Courses - we offer a two course, three course or five course Sunday Lunch options at very competitive prices.  Our menu varies weekly - with three main courses to choose from -  beef and Yorkshires are a menu staple and then another roast meat and a fish dish, complemented by a choice of starters and then home-made desserts, followed by cheese, coffee and mints! (see example Sunday Lunch choices here) which suits our regular visitors .

5.  Freshly prepared, locally-sourced produce  -  Clarkes Restaurant in Usk offers customers a truly wonderful dining experience, combining as it does the luxurious environment of this beautiful Victorian villa with dishes produced from the finest, freshest and, wherever possible, locally-sourced ingredients.  In this respect the restaurant is spoilt for choice, as Monmouthshire and its surrounding counties can boast a plethora of local suppliers providing all manner of delicious foods from unique cheeses and wines, famous Welsh beef and lamb, to fresh fish and seafood.

So there we are!  Not just any Sunday Lunch - we invite you to come and see the difference in our service, quality of food and exceptional customer service.  We do recommend you book in advance - 01291 672302 to avoid disappointment.  See you next Sunday?
